Learn to teach American Heart Association BLS courses. Get the training, tools, and mentorship to become a certified AHA BLS Instructor.
This approximately 8-hour course prepares you to plan, teach, and manage AHA BLS Provider courses. You'll cover everything from structuring a class to administering written exams, running skills testing, and maintaining your instructor credentials.
Learn how to organize and prepare a BLS Provider course from start to finish, including scheduling, materials, equipment setup, and student requirements.
Develop the skills to facilitate high-quality AHA training — presenting content clearly, engaging students, and managing a productive classroom environment.
Learn to conduct and grade written exams, run skills practice sessions, and administer skills testing per AHA guidelines.
Understand the ongoing requirements to keep your AHA instructor status current, including monitoring, renewal schedules, and staying aligned with AHA guidelines.
- Current AHA BLS Provider Card
- Completion Certificate from BLS Instructor Essentials online course
- BLS Instructor Manual (required for classroom entry)
- BLS Provider Manual (required for classroom entry)
- Successfully complete the BLS Skills Check during the instructor course
- Pass the written test with 84% or greater
- Actively participate in all course activities
The BLS Instructor Essentials is a required online course available through the AHA at onlineaha.org. Complete it before attending this course and bring your printed certificate of completion.
Heart to Heart CTC offers a CPR Mentorship program for new and developing instructors who want additional support and guidance before teaching on their own.
