Phlebotomy Bridge Program for HTH Graduates

Arleigh Hatcher, BSN, RN • October 26, 2026

Your Next Skill Starts With What You Already Know

A patient sits down, rolls up a sleeve and takes a slow breath. Before anything else happens, someone greets them by name, confirms who they are, explains each step and helps them relax.

If you’ve trained as a Nurse Aide or Medication Aide, that moment probably feels familiar. It’s also how every good blood draw begins.

A Head Start You’ve Already Earned

Phlebotomists collect blood samples that help care teams understand a patient’s health. The role combines technical skill with patient care, and many of those patient-care skills are ones you’ve already practiced during your HTH training:

  • Infection control and proper use of PPE
  • Confirming patient identity with two identifiers
  • Protecting patient privacy
  • Medical terminology
  • Helping patients feel calm and comfortable

With this foundation in place, you’re ready to focus on the technical side of phlebotomy.

What You’ll Learn

Our Phlebotomy Bridge Program builds on your existing training, so class time centers on new, hands-on skills:

  • Blood collection equipment
  • Venipuncture (drawing blood from a vein)
  • Fingersticks
  • Specimen handling

You’ll put these skills into practice by completing 46 sticks: 36 arm draws and 10 fingersticks. Students bring their own volunteers, ages 18 and older, to class for practice.

A Blend of Online and In-Person Learning

The program combines online coursework with in-person classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Upcoming class: November 2 – December 15, 2026

Location:  241 McLaws Circle, Suite 101, Williamsburg, VA 23185

Take the Next Step

Your training has already prepared you for meaningful work with patients. Phlebotomy is one more way to put those skills to use and grow your healthcare experience.

If you’re an HTH Nurse Aide or Medication Aide graduate, we’d love to tell you more. Call us at 757-229-0919 or visit hearttoheartctc.com.
